The Kerala High Court has altered the dress code for female judicial officers, now allowing them to wear salwar kameez, shirts, and trousers..( Attachment)

The Kerala High Court has recently updated its dress code guidelines for female judicial officers within the state. In contrast to the previous requirement, which mandated the wearing of a saree and blouse, judicial officers now have the flexibility to choose between wearing a salwar kameez or a blouse/shirt with full-length trousers or skirts.

However, it is essential to note that the clothing must adhere to a strict black and white color scheme and maintain an appearance that is “modest and simple, befitting the dignity of a judicial officer.” This alteration in the dress code regulations, as outlined in a circular released by the High Court on October 7, is aimed at alleviating the challenges faced by female judicial officers in dealing with fluctuating weather conditions and infrastructural constraints within court premises.

Here are the updated clothing options available to female judicial officers:

  1. A white saree with a black collar blouse featuring full or half sleeves, accompanied by stiff/soft bands and collars, along with a black gown as required, similar to the existing attire.
  2. A white salwar with full or half sleeves and a high neck or collar, complemented by a white or black kameez that fits modestly and covers the ankles. This ensemble should be worn with a black full-sleeved coat or black vest featuring soft/stiff collars and bands, along with gowns as necessary.
  3. A white full-sleeved blouse or shirt with a high neck and collar, combined with modest full ankle-length trousers or skirts in black. This outfit should also feature stiff/soft collars and bands and be accompanied by a black full-sleeved coat or black vest with soft/stiff collars and bands, along with gowns as needed.

These changes aim to provide greater comfort and flexibility for female judicial officers while maintaining the decorum and professionalism expected of their role.
