No output in Fifth meeting of GST council

There is no go though in the fifth meeting of GST council today. Collusion between the center and state is no coming to an end. Main point of contention was the jurisdiction over the service tax assesses.

In his press briefing finance minister Mr. Arun jaitely said that the nine chapters of CGST and SGST law have been already discussed in the earlier meetings of GST Council. Now the ย meeting will resume on 11-12 December 2016.

Four legal drafts to be approved

Finance minister told that there are four drafts to be approved by GST council. CGST,SGST and IGST Law and compensation bill. States need to pass the SGST law and center need to pass the CGST Law.

Issue of cross empowerment

Issue of cross empowerment was also discussed in the fifth meeting of GST council post lunch. In its meeting on 11-12th Dec also the Council will discuss the issue of cross empowerment. There are three proposals for division of jurisdiction. Horizontal , vertical and may be hybrid division of administration is possible.ย 

Compensation law and IGST will be main discussion in meeting of GST Council on 11-12th Dec. FM also said that they want to reach the consensus on every issue. There were also some demands for share of states in IGST also. Issue of dual control to prevail in next meeting also.ย
