ICAI’s New Exam Schedule: Tri-Annual Exams
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the world’s largest accounting body, has made a significant change to its exam schedule. Instead of the previous bi-annual exams in May and November, ICAI will now hold exams three times a year.
Central Council Decision: Meeting Outcome
This decision was made during a meeting of the Central Council of ICAI held in the capital. The aim is to provide more opportunities for students and align with global best practices.
President’s Statement: Benefits for Students
ICAI’s President highlighted the benefits for students who have completed their study period. They can now appear for exams without waiting for the usual two-month interval, thereby encouraging more aspirants to pursue the Chartered Accountancy profession.
Continued Final Course Schedule
Despite the changes, the Final Course schedule remains unchanged and will still be held in May and November each year.
Membership and Student Numbers
ICAI currently boasts 4 lakh members and 8.5 lakh students, reflecting its prominent position in the accounting field.
Vision for Future Chartered Accountants
The President emphasized the need for the country to have at least 30 lakh chartered accountants by 2047, aligning with India’s goal of becoming a developed nation.
Impact of Exam Frequency Adjustment
Reducing the interval between exams from six months to four months will provide students with more opportunities to appear in examinations, benefiting those who have completed their study period.
Record Enrollment for Upcoming Exams
In anticipation of the upcoming May/June 2024 examinations, a record-breaking 4,36,500 students have already enrolled, marking the highest enrollment for the exam till date.
Focus on Tech-Savvy Professionals
ICAI has been proactive in redesigning its education and training scheme to produce skilled and technology-savvy accounting professionals.
New Education and Training Scheme Implementation
The introduction of the new scheme of education and training in 2023 has significantly altered the CA course curriculum and practical training duration, aiming to shape accounting professionals proficient in technology.
